Comments Form

  • Nov. 27th, 2007 at 3:07 PM
Hi there,

I've been tweaking away at my layout for ages now, and have it just about perfect. My only remaining problems center around the comments form. I'd like to remove a random gray bar that's appearing above the form. I'd also like to remove the border-bottom that appears on the entry, or, in the very least, extend the entry's left and right borders to the bottom of the page (I assume this means I'll need to actually add borders to the comments form rather than extend the entry borders).
Can anyone help?

I've included a picture

The borders are the easy part. Take out the part in red:
.asset {margin: 0px; padding: 5px 5px 0px 13px; border-bottom: 2px dashed #5E2612; border-right: 2px dashed #5E2612; border-left: 2px dashed #5E2612;}
and add this line just below it:
#alpha-inner {border-right: 2px dashed #5E2612; border-left: 2px dashed #5E2612;}

The other line, the horizontal rule (<hr />) is hard-coded into the ReplyPage::print_body() function, so you'd have to change that with a theme layer.

Thanks! I've removed the horizontal rule just fine. As far as the borders though-- will doing this remove the borders from the bottoms of ALL my entries, or just the entries on the comments page?

All the entries. You could leave the border-bottom part in .asset and still add the other line. I don't remember if there's a separate CSS class for ReplyPage vs. EntryPage, but I can check. There isn't. Did you want the borders to appear on both sides of comments, too? The second line I gave you will do that.

That worked great. Is there a way to add a margin/padding to the comments form and/or change the text color on the comments form?

Where did you want to put the margins or borders?

I actually (finally) worked out the margins and borders-- but the text colors on the comment form still baffle me!

You just want to make the text people type into the form a different color?
textarea {color: #xxxxxx;}
There's a line in the stylesheet that has input, textarea, select {}, but if you put a color in there, it changes the text on the buttons too! Or maybe you'd want that... ;)

Actually, I mean the header that says "Comment form" and the text below it (From:, Subject:, etc.)

The comment header question is covered here.
You could do something like:
.replyform {color: #xxxxxx;}
for the comment form, however, the "From:", "Subject:" etc. aren't in their own classes, so you can't change the headings separately from the rest of the form.

Thanks-- I don't know how I missed that!
