Navigation bar problem - Mixit

  • May. 22nd, 2007 at 8:13 AM
I'm currently using a style at notthelastsong (Plus account) that originally doesn't include a header image but I managed to add one.
With the header added, the navigation bar moved from the sidebar up to the left side of my header. I managed to move it back to its original place but now the links doesn't work FireFox. They're okay in Internet Explorer but the sidebar concent and my latest post is pushed down with 200px there :S

FF printscreen | IE printscreen

Thank you in advance.

I recognize grrliz's layout but I'm not that familiar with the CSS structure. What exactly did you change from her base stylesheet?

I changed this
#header {z-index: 100; position: absolute; right: 0px; top: 0px; width: 200px;}
to this:
#header {position: relative; height: 240px; background: url(http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b155/marlenem/notthelastsong_01.png) top center no-repeat;}

and this
#header-content {overflow: hidden; text-transform: uppercase; text-align: right;}
to this:
#header-content {overflow: hidden; text-transform: uppercase; text-align: right; margin: 250px 0px 0px 600px;}

Nothing else is changed in the codes :S

Lots of things to cover here... In the original layout, the #header block is the block of five links at the top of the sidebar, and there is no proper banner. By putting in a banner, the links will move to the top. Then, putting in the margins pushed the rest of the content down. I have no idea why the links might not work in Firefox. Did you try asking grrliz if she had any suggestions for adding a banner? It seems to me that if you want to add one, you won't be able to put the header links on the side.

She has a haq for adding & removing things from the style but she said there that she couldn't help anyone putting a header in so I didn't ask her. Thought someone could help me here :((

Seems like I can't push down the nav bar down then :((
Thanks for helping me though :)))

Well, I didn't mean to imply that it was impossible or anything to put in a banner. It just won't look like the original layout any more because of the way certain elements are printed. You could put in a banner and just hide the nav links, for one example.

Thank you :))) I hid the navigation bar and added a Link item to the sidebar instead :)))

Sounds weird. It might be to do with css that Firefox doesn't like. Perhaps try removing things like text-transform tags. Also,
[Error: Irreparable invalid markup ('<i<list-style-type</i>') in entry. Owner must fix manually. Raw contents below.]

Sounds weird. It might be to do with css that Firefox doesn't like. Perhaps try removing things like <i>text-transform</i> tags. Also, <i<list-style-type</i> is unusual. You could Google what is compatible with what browser.

Also, in the following:

#header-text a {block; margin: 7px 0px; color: #ffffff; font-size: 14px;}

<i>block</i> seems to be stuck there on it's own - usually css has a thing that has a value defined for it, and <i>block</i> there doesn't. I don't know what that's for, but it could upset the code interpretation.

Doh, I mistyped. Ignore all those italic tags.

I corrected block but it seems that's not the problem.

I'm not sure if there's a problem with text-transform and list-style-type too because they worked just fine before I added margin: 250px 0px 0px 600px; to #header-content :S

Thank you for trying to help though :DD
