Change background color of ads in plus?

  • May. 10th, 2007 at 9:35 PM
I looked through the tags, but I couldn't find anything, and I found a solution in the Flexible squares community, but the option isn't available to Mixit it seems. (Where you change the background color for one of the values in the color wizard. Err, sorry if that didn't make sense, all this searching has fried my brain.)

Anyway, what I am looking to do is change or remove the white background color for the ads on a plus account. I don't want to remove the ads, just make them not pop out so much. Is there any way to do it? :/

Which background color option is it in FS? Theoretically, changing the same one in Expressive should do the trick. Oddly enough, I viewed your page while logged out and didn't see any ads or white boxes, but it's possible something here was blocking the ads.

Well actually the layout I'm using uses Mixit, so I don't know if it'd work in Expressive. (The Mixit comm is dead, and this one says Mixit help in it so I hope it's ok!)

But the section that the person on the flexible squares community said changed the ad color was "Background color of the outer table." (From this post.) Unfortunately, Mixit is only letting me change the colors for the navigation strip. :/

Maybe someone has the CSS ID or class for that section? Then maybe it'd work...

» Background color of navigation strip Choose...
If you don't enable custom navigation strip colors in the "Presentation" section, this won't have any effect.
» Text color of navigation strip Choose...
If you don't enable custom navigation strip colors in the "Presentation" section, this won't have any effect.
» Border color of navigation strip Choose...
If you don't enable custom navigation strip colors in the "Presentation" section, this won't have any effect.
» Link color of navigation strip Choose...
If you don't enable custom navigation strip colors in the "Presentation" section, this won't have any effect.
» Show friends colors on Friends Page

Those are the only colors it lets me change. :[

The Mixit community isn't "dead", it intentionally re-directs here so we don't have two communities for the same layout. In looking through the FS code, the ad backgrounds are part of the HTML, which is why you can change the colors. This is also why, according to this post, ads in some layouts are supposed to match the theme, but only if the colors are changed in the Customize Journal page. In Mixit/Expressive and several others, you can only change theme colors through custom CSS.
So what can you do? You could try applying the background-color property to any one of these IDs/classes:
.ljad
#ad-leaderboard
#ad-leaderboard-inner
#ad-5linkunit

However, that post you linked to in the s2flexisquares community has a comment that leads me to believe the CSS parser will block any attempt to style the ad DIVs, so be aware of that possibility.

Did you try enabling custom colors and changing them anyway? Did it have any effect?
