Embedding code into the sticky post.

  • Apr. 30th, 2007 at 1:02 PM
Is there raw code for the sticky post? That I can just stick in my layer and futz around with that way? For some reason when I use the lj embed tags in the sticky post text box (under custom text) it won't recognize it. I would like to be able to display some of my widgets and so far nothing is working outside of the entries, which means I would have to pin an entry which fracks up my calendar.

Which is actually fine I guess.

You got a pretty good answer already over in s2styles. I'm not sure by what mechanism the HTML cleaner deems embedded media "OK" in entries and "not OK" everywhere else, but I don't think you're going to be able to circumvent the restriction by messing with the print_sticky() function.
About the calendar thing, well, stay tuned to lj_releases, as the developers appear to be working on that.

I assumed it was a different deal because I thought the post acted as an entry. In actuality it's more of like a sidebar free text box, right?

Hmm, guess I'll just have to wait then. Thanks.

Actually, I found some code a while back (for a different layout) that would create a sticky post with a linkbar linking to an actual entry that you'd have to create. Or something like that. I was thinking about modifying the code for Expressive, but didn't think about it again until now.
Anyway, yes, the sticky post is really just free text that is "hard coded" at the top of the layout and formatted to look like a post. s2flexisquares and component_help use a similar approach.

I thought so, I'd used the approach when I had a flexisquares layout, and used it slightly in component and smooth_sailing. Thank you for the link to the releases blog. I swear, they need an lj_homebase where they let everyone know when there are updates to eljay specific comms.

Hmm.. I might have to start something like that, but man the time!

lj_releases is intended to do this "lj_homebase" idea of yours.

av8rmike read about these changes (that are upcoming, but not live yet) in changelog.

lj_releases announces these changes as they're going live on the site. not days or weeks before.

the_lj_herald is not an official LJ community but they do an awesome job of keeping people up-to-date with the latest news at LJ. however, there's some lag since they're human just like the rest of us. :)

Well naturally and completely understood. Thanks so much, these links will definitely come in handy!
