Hi. There are 3 changes I would love to make to my layout, and I have no idea where to begin. Unfortunately, I have little to no experience w/ either CSS or style sheets, so I would need very specific instructions.

I would like to:

1. Widen the actual entry area, while keeping the 3 column layout type. If that is not possible, then I would like to add scroll bars. - thank You for your help on the scroll bars dumdummuoi.

EDIT: SEPT. 1st I still need help w/ 2. Add the day of the week to the date/ time stamp., please!

3. Add a "friend" section to the sidebar, in order to be able to go directly to a specific journal or community. - Thanks for the heads up camomiletea

Help would be greatly appreciated.

T.I.A.

3. I hate to disappoint you, but the information about all your friends is not directly accessible. If you wanted to display a list, you'd need to hardcode everything in; and if you make changes -- delete friends, add new ones -- you'd have to go back and manually do it to your layout as well.

to #1:

add the following to the custom css field:

.asset-inner { overflow: auto; }

this will add scrollbars to the entry area if there is an image in the entry that exceeds the width of the content column (applies to that entry only).

Ok...the good news: I got the scroll bars
the bad news: no matter what parameters I set I get the height scroll down the side (Which I DO NOT want) instead of just the width scroll (which I DO want), and the odd thing is it does it w/ some entries and not others.

I'll "unlock" a couple of entries if you'd like to take a look.

Oh here is where I am so far code wise

asset-inner{
max-height:5000px;
max-width: 600px;
overflow: auto; }

The 5000 was just to see if I could make the side bar go away. I also tried just using width (no go) and just using height(didn't work either).

Thanks for your help

odd... does this happen on the recent page as well as the entry page, or just the entry page? last i checked (i tried it about 10-12 hours ago) i didn't get the vertical scrollbar... the team might be tinkering around with it a little, because chasethestars from the design team said she was going to look into having the overflow handler implemented into the layout so we don't have to add it manually. i'll look into it later and let you know (if i remember), but no guarantees.

I'm not sure how to answer that. It definitely happens on the "Recent" page, but I do not know how to check the "entry page".

I would definitely appreciate if you could let me know.

Weird,...I "padded" the margins and was able to get rid of most but NOT all of the unnecessary scroll bars.

okay, here're a couple of things you could try:

the quick and dirty way, hiding the vertical scrollbar:

.asset-inner {
overflow-x: auto;
overflow-y: hidden;
}

alternately, i'm almost sure this won't work correctly, but it's worth a try: you could try your current code, except with scroll instead of auto, like so:

.asset-inner {
max-height: 5000px;
max-width: 600px;
overflow: scroll;
}

Almost there..may have to live w/ it, but I hope not!

Using this :

.asset-inner{
max-width: 550px;
overflow: auto;
padding-top: 5px;
padding-left: 10px;
padding-right: 10px;
}

I now only have a vertical, scroll if a horizontal one is needed as well. Here is an example Public Post

It's still very annoying, and I don't know how to get rid of it, but at least ALL of my entries are not showing the vertical scroll bar now.

you should give the 1st method i suggested a shot. i'm quite confident that would do the trick :)

Found the overriding issue...I was using an older version of Firefox (Never realized they had updated). Updating to 1.5 seems to have helped get rid of the vertical bar. Odd but true. Thanks again.
Now I'm going to see what other interesting side effects have happened...lol

Did you solve issue #2? I was looking back through older posts and figured out how to change the date-time format.

oh! i would dearly love how to format the date - i have expressive seasonal and would like the day and date spelled out longform, like this: Friday, November 16, 2007

thank you!
