bug/fix: Scribe theme header

  • Feb. 15th, 2007 at 5:19 PM
This will be fixed in the next release, but in the meantime..

If you're currently using the Scribe theme, and it bothers you that the header is getting cut off, add the following to the Custom CSS box:

#header-photo-inner { height:60px }

Why does this work, since there's no content in #header-photo? To me, it makes more sense to increase the margin-bottom property of #header-content. But then, I'm not the designer.

In some Vox themes, the member photo ("userpic") is in the header, and in others, it's in the sidebar. For consistency, we kept it in the sidebar for all Expressive themes.

The "userpic" in Vox headers is always 50x50, with a 5px border (totalling 60px). Because it's the userpic that's defining the height in the headers of themes, that's why the height:60x;. That way, the rest of the numbers (such as margin-bottom) should be the same as they are on Vox.

OK, so that's why it works on Vox. But in Expressive there is no user-pic <IMG> in the #header-photo <DIV> to establish the height of the box. Am I missing some place in the other stylesheets where the height: is set, or is there some other voodoo at work here?

I think I might be mis-interpreting the question, but..

There's no image, but the header-photo and header-photo-inner divs are still printed. The title/subtitle and how many lines it is also affects the height. Sometimes the text is enough (+ the padding/margin bottom), but sometimes it's not w/o the user-pic's 60px.

There used to be a specific stylesheet for each theme, such as playful.css that would come after all the other stylesheets (since we couldn't add height:60px to ljextras.css or it would affect all themes). But then we realized that they were the same piece of css and consoidated it into header.css. That's the only place that height: is set as far as I recall.

Ah, so even though the photo <DIV>s are empty, it's floated next to text which defines its height, and consequently, the height of the containing blocks. Or something. Talk about convoluted. Although, looking at the layer source, only 3 of the theme "families" use the header.css file.

Funny you should mention ljextras.css. I've found at least a few bugs in that file.
