Previous Entry | Next Entry

My first post here, so I hope I do this right. I'll try to give as much information as possible according to the rules ^_^; sorry if it's too wordy.

Right now I have a free account because my paid account just expired, but I'm getting that renewed a.s.a.p.
My browser is Safari 1.3.2 and my theme is Pixipets Death (Mixit) with three columns+content on left layout.

For spacepirate179's layout my problems are

1. The image is repeating twice, once to the left (which is where I want it) and once in the center (where I don't want it).
2. I wish to move the entries and sidebars up and to the right, is this possible?
3. The text is overlapping the images in some places. --SOLVED! Sankyuu!
4. The little grim reaper-y guy is overlapping an image. --SOLVED! Sankyuu!
5. Lastly, I wondered if when you go to leave or read comments, how can I keep my journal style without going to Livejournal's layout? the url says "style=mine" but it doesn't show mine. --SOLVED! Sankyuu!

To help you see what I mean, here's a picture of how I want it+where the text and image is overlapping...

That is how I want the entries and sidebar to be alongside the image. I circled in red where the scythe dude and the text is overlapping.

Any ideas how I can fix this? I've tried a few different things but this is as close as I can get it. Here is my CSS so far...

#header-inner {
background-image: url(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v244/SparkleBebe/myvblue_winter.gif);

Layout stuff is always tricky. I can't see a lot of the changes you've made, but I can knock off a few of these:
3. Use the CSS you already have for the boxes for the entry subject and date/time, I just changed a few things:
/* Post subject */
h2.asset-name, .pageheader2 {
margin-left: 0px;
padding-left: 200px;
border-left: none;
}
/* Post date & time */
.asset-header .asset-meta-list {
left: 200px;
}

4. To get rid of the little Pixipet guy:
.asset-name {background-image:none;}
5. Custom Options, "Disable customized comment pages for your journal" should be "No" to show comment pages in your style.

adding on to <lj user="av8rmike">'s answer to #5:
There are 2 parts to this: to have your comments links always go to ?style=mine when you click it, you'll have to specify the following in your profile options (if you haven't already):
Profile > Edit Profile > viewing options
near the bottom of the page, you'll find the option for Comment pages. Check the tickybox next to "View comment pages in your own journal style"

The second part is what av8rmike said. However, customized comment pages are available only to Plus and Paid users, so even if you have these options selected, with a Basic account, you'd still see the LJ app layout.

Unrelated to your post, but something to keep in mind when you're renewing your account:

If you like having lots of userpics, you should check out the Give More promotion. Basically when someone buys paid time for someone else, the user on the receiving end also automatically get the userpic add on (comes with 100 userpics) which lasts for as long as the paid time lasts. So if you want this for yourself, have a friend pay for your account, or create a new account to use to buy paid time for your current account. This promotion ends December 31st 11:59 PST.

For #1 and 2, I think you'd be better off trying to place the image in the content area rather than in the header and moving everything else up. With the entries and sidebars next to the image, your entries area is going to be a pretty thin column; is that what you want? Would you rather have the image be the background in one of the sidebar columns, or to have one sidebar instead of two?

You can stop the Grim Reaper overlapping your little pictures by changing where the little pictures are place and fiddling with the positioning of the text element. So replace:

.asset-stream .asset-header {
background: transparent url(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v244/SparkleBebe/myvblue_winter.gif) no-repeat scroll 0 0;
}

with:

.asset-stream .asset-header { background: none; border: none; left: 17px; top: -10px; }
.asset-stream .asset-inner {
background: transparent url(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v244/SparkleBebe/myvblue_winter.gif) no-repeat scroll 0 0;
}

and play with the positioning of .asset-stream .asset-header .

PS That will also get rid of Grim Reaper.

Also, you may be having issues with unwanted styles for comments because you're a free account at the moment - they always see LJ's default style for comment pages.

Header text an links can be moved by playing about with this:

#header-text { position: relative; top: 143px; left: -70px; }
#header-name { position: relative; top: -78px; }
#header-description { position: relative; top: -130px; left: 23px ; }

(That's set for the positions mine are in.)
