Custom Text Box

  • Nov. 27th, 2006 at 12:45 AM

Greetings all!

I've been having some difficulty with the Custom Text Box in my layout.  My source is here.  My layout setup is right here.  The custom text box simply is not reflected in my personal journal at imaginecreate asides from the automatically generated stuff.  Anyone have any ideas?

Your layers aren't publicly viewable. However, syntactically, the code for print_module_customtext() appears to be correct. What else did you modify besides that function? Is the custom text body empty?

I haven't modified anything else. The custom text body in my Customize Options is set to just "Safe text" right now, and it displays in my journal, sans the HTML. If I remove the title and text body there, it doesn't make the HTML appear either. It makes me wonder if my layout setup is incorrect since it doesn't seem to be applying the HTML. :/ Any ideas?

It's hard to tell what might be wrong, since I can't view your layers. (Hint: Put "layerinfo "source_viewable" = 1;" in your layer source to make it viewable.) From your screenshot, it looks like you used the entire Expressive code to create your own layout, then made some customizations from there. Unless you're making a serious amount of modifications to the layout, that's kind of an overkill solution, plus any changes or bug fixes made to Expressive won't be reflected in your layer. Try using Expressive (#7176168) as your layout, create a theme layer based on Expressive, and copy your modified customtext() function into it. That's what I did, and it worked for me.

Well, I sort of figured out what I needed to do. Now I have a very different question about themes. My theme layer has just the customtext code, and it works but without the Cycling Blue theme. Now I just want to retain the Cycling Blue theme and the custom_text. I hadn't realized how layers and styles work together. Kind of an 'aha!' moment. Where might I go for help on the theme stuff?

I hadn't realized how the Styles section impacted the layers. Chalk it up to a misunderstanding as to how layers work. I thought they were top-down like multiple stylesheets. As for getting the theme plus the custom text, that was just snipping the css declaration from the Cycling Blue theme code and pasting it into my own theme layer.
