Im sorry to be a complete noob idiot but i've read the beginners guide and just cant find the place to start customizing.

Where do i find the CSS code? "Your layers"? "Your styles"? I cant find code in these.. all i really want to do is change my header? I'd appreciate it if anyone could help?

View the source for your journal page, then look for the lines that begin <link rel="stylesheet" href="...">. These lines are the paths to the five stylesheets for Expressive.
However, you can't directly modify the stylesheets because they're accessed directly from the server. What you can do is:
  • specify (none) under "Themes" under Customize Journal, if you want to build your own theme from scratch,
  • specify a link to an external stylesheet on the "Custom CSS" page, or
  • make small modifications to a theme's CSS in the "Custom Stylesheet" box on the same page.

The "Your styles" and "Your layers" are only if you wanted to create a custom layout or theme, which will depend on how you want to modify your journal header.

Like I said, you'll find the paths to the style sheets in the page source. You can look at any of them by just copying the address to the address bar in your browser. Since you're using Zen Neutral, the stylesheet that controls the header image is here: http://stat.livejournal.com/voxhtml/zen-neutral/screen.css. The part that controls the header are the lines that start with #header and #header-inner. If you need more help, browse the entries tagged with "header", or check out this entry.

Right so do i need to copy the entire stylesheet into the custom CSS box then change the header details?

Re: Thanks
No, just the classes and/or IDs you need to change, i.e. #header and #header-inner. There should be more than enough examples in the linked posts.

What you need is CSS 101 - how to use CSS. You can view the stylesheets by following the instructions given by others in the comments, or you can find the post I put in this community with a link to the css classes and what they are for.

But to use them - you go to the bit in your journal management section called Custom CSS and you see there's a big text box there. You put your own CSS into that box and press save. Anything you put in there will override the existing styles of your journal.

For example, you could put something like:

body { background-color: #000000; }

to make the page background black.

I suggest you Google to find an introduction to CSS and how it works to get your head around it all first.
