Adding a Counter

  • Oct. 9th, 2006 at 12:39 PM
Hi all:

I have no clue how to customize anything on my page other than the obvious options under edit journal style.
I'd like to add a counter to my journal's sidebar and I'm not sure how to do that.
I have Expressive Travel right now.
Paid account, IE 6 (I think) and generally clueless.
Help?

Thanks! :-D

Adding sidebar boxes in expressive

It may also be useful to read s2howto's tutorial on Theme Layers.

please see this discussion.

i would also imagine that since customtext_body has a string_mode of html that the counter code could be placed directly into the wizard that way.

Thanks very much! However, I know so little that I don't even know where that code would go. And you totally lost me at "wizard." But that looks like an easier option.

Thank you for the links! Unfortunately, the first one is friends-locked in a community that is not accepting new members....
So, I would have to create a new layer to put the counter in as an alternative?
Or can I put the counter code into an already existing layer?

Thanks so much. I really appreciate your help! :-)

Hmmm, they must have edited the entry today. I got there fine before...

Yes, you would need to create a new theme layer if you don't already have one. This will allow you to enter in the necessary overiding code for the sidebar.

Hello,

I'm not authorized to view this protected entry. What can I do to read the how to add sidebar boxes there?

Thanks!

I wasn't authorized to view it either - something about having to be a member then no new members were being accepted... Good luck!

were you able to add the counter? (just curious) If yes, was it easy?

I added a counter to my profile page. I didn't add one to the journal page itself, but it seems like the easiest way to do so is to put it into an entry that is future-dated. That way you don't have to go through all the code stuff which I am inept at.

Oh, I have an invisible counter within the side bar right now, but it's the flexible square layout. I hope someone will be able to find a solution, because I like to know wether people visit my journal.

Oh! Well, it is possible, I just don't know how to do it, because of the whole "I suck at code" thing.
