printing nav links outside of header

  • Nov. 27th, 2010 at 10:11 AM
Hi,

I'm trying to style my LJ to more or less match my Dreamwidth layout (http://trinity-clare.dreamwidth.org/), and I think I've figured most of it out except the navigation links. I know what I'm doing with CSS styling once I get them where I want them, but I have a feeling that placing them below the header like that will require messing with functions, and I'm not good enough at those. Is there a way to do it with CSS, or not?

Also, while I'm here, my journal subtitle isn't showing up on my friends page. Is there a livejournal setting I'm missing, or is that CSS too?

Try this

About the navigation links - add/change this:

#header
{position:relative; height: 180px;}

#header-text .nav
{position:absolute; bottom:0; background:lightblue}
+ further adjustments

The subtitle does't show on the friend's site - neither is it a LJ setting nor CSS; you'll need further coding.
You could alternatively make a separate background image with the subtitle in it and exchange the header background on the friend's site:

.lj-view-friends #header
{background: url(xxx.img)}

Good luck!

Re: Try this
Sorry for the late reply - coding for fun got shelved behind other work. The nav link code worked perfectly! Thanks!

anarano is basically correct; you'll to get the journal subtitle to show on the Friends page, you'll need to edit the Page::lay_print_header_links() function through a theme layer.
