How to put widgets in the sidebar

  • Oct. 3rd, 2010 at 11:23 AM
Hey! This is my first post^^ and after searching through all the tags, I THINK this has not been asked before.. and that is if it's possible to put a hit counter at the sidebars? Right now I'm putting it as an entry, but is there anyway that the counter can be moved to the side so that it's always there?

Thank you!^^

I think the best way to do that is to put the HTML codes in the blurb section.

A blurb is that little box where you can put text in, basically. There should be a box for you to put the HTML in here, under the "Custom" tab.

hmm I tried that before but it didn't work.. at first I thought it's only possible on blogspot.com but then I happen to chance upon this livejournal user who could do that so I was just curious as to how it works?

Did you enable the "Custom Text" option in that page? If not, maybe other styles like Smooth Sailing might let you post some HTML.

whoo is that pokemon^^

sorry:P anyway, uhm, I think so... as in it's just there when I click on the sidebars option so I pasted my html inside but when I look at my journal there's no widget... so I suspect there might be something wrong with my html or like what av8rmike said, maybe I was using javascript..

I'm sorry for troubling!>

It's covered in the LiveJournal FAQs, namely this one. In Expressive, the "blurb" is called "Custom Text" and is found in the Sidebar section on the Customize Options page. Also note that JavaScript and Flash counters aren't allowed on LiveJournal, which may be why yours doesn't work here.

Thank you! I've checked out those sites but am still a bit confused mainly because I have no idea what's my scripting program or something... I suspect it's something got to do with the html? Or maybe it's only possible for Permanant or Paid accounts

No, it has nothing to do with Paid/Permanent account status. "Scripting" means JavaScript and/or Flash; in other words, if the code from your counter site looks like <script> or <object>, it will be stripped from your journal page. If it's just an image, like <img src="..."> tags, it should be OK. I'm not seeing the "custom text" module in your sidebar at all, though. On the Customize Options page, did you set one of the "item in sidebar" options to "Custom Text"?

OH WAIT so that's what enekoro_sama means! [enabling the custom text options] I've tried it and it worked!
