Sidebar help

  • Sep. 28th, 2008 at 1:20 AM
Hello! I just became a paid account tonight because I would really like to be able to have link buttons on my sidebar. Right now I only have the one that is available to me (the Momdot button). Here is the link to my journal:

http://cookingmom.livejournal.com/

There are several communities (outside of LJ) I'd like to join, but in order to, I have to display their link buttons. I have read almost every entry on how to add to the sidebar so I could accomplish this, but I just don't get it. I can do basic HTML, but that's about it. Nothing I've read has made any sense at all to me. Is there somewhere that has the code to do just what I need and tells me where and how to do it without confusing me? Sorry to sound to pathetic, but I may as well be trying to read Greek when I read the instructions and tutorials!

Thank you.

Well, if all you wanted was just to add more graphical links, the easiest way to do that would be to add the additional HTML to the custom text box in Customize Options. This didn't work for you?

It does now. I had no idea I could add more HTML to the custom text box. I was making this so much harder on myself than I needed to, and now I feel really foolish!

Thank you so much for your help.

No problem! I try to make the tutorials here as easy to follow as I can, but feel free to ask more questions if something is confusing or you want to do something else.

That didn't work for me, and I'm completely unsure why.

You can't have more than one unique custom text box in the sidebar (not without changing the S2 code, at least). What is it you're trying to do?

I'd be happy with just one custom box, but I'm really not that skilled with css, and cannot find a way to do it. The coding I used doesn't mesh with any of the codes I've found to add a custom sidebar box, and whenever I try messing with it, my entire layout gets...wonky.

The layout supports one custom text box natively; you don't need to do any messing with CSS or layers or codes to get it. You just have to add text (or HTML) and a title, and give the box one of the positions on the "Sidebar" page on http://www.livejournal.com/customize/options.bml
