Outlines in linked images

  • Apr. 9th, 2008 at 7:05 PM
I've got a question that is hopefully very simple. How do you turn off the outlines around linked images?

Right now, the images have a blue outline around them, then turn purple when the link has been visited. I'd like to omit this outline altogether.

I don't know that it's necessary to solve this mostly generic problem, but I'm using IE7, Windows XP, and my journal is snowpuppies.

Try something like this:

a img {border: 0px}

Well, more generally, you can cause an image not to have a border (which is what the blue/purple thing is in a link image, rather than an underline as it is for link text) by specifying border=0 as an attribute in the image tag. I therefore would assume if your stylesheet says img {border: 0;} you might accomplish the same thing. I haven't tried it, and I dunno what else might be in your style sheet regarding images (and am laaaazy and didn't look. :D).

Worth noting: this removes the visual cue that the image is a link, so folks (or you, as it's your own journal) might not know to clicky.

I think any changes you make the general link style (that is ...hm, I always have to look this up a.visited? a.hover? those.) don't carry very well to the box around image. I also avoid IE7 pretty hard due to the OHGOD memory issues, so I'm not sure whether it renders things differently than FF or previous iterations of IE.
